BLOG BUTTON VISITOR COUNTER![]() |
---
24-Feb-2006: First release.
STEP 1: Download and save the following zip file: visitors.zip
STEP 2: Unzip the file and transfer the 3 files ('index.php', 'font.dat' and 'visits.dat') into a directory on your web-server called 'visitors.png'. Set the permissions on 'visits.dat' to be read, write and execute for all (CHMOD 777).
STEP 3: Place an <img> tag with 'src="/PATH/visitors.png"' on your web-page where you wish the counter to appear where PATH is the path to the directory where you stored the script (this might be nothing if 'visitors.png' is a sub-directory of the place where your web-page is located). For example:
WHAT DOES IT DO? This PHP script produces an 80 by 15 pixel 'blog style' button which counts the number of visitors to your site. It has the added feature that consecutive visits from the same person are not counted so that if one person visits the same page on multiple occasions, one after the other, only their first visit is counted. Also, for consecutive visits, the background colour behind the word 'VISIT' changes (from light green to dark green) to indicate that the counter has not been incremented.
