Vicky's Vault - The Vestry

Birmingham Mission (24 January 2004)
  Or… "Burning Ambition" (geddit?)
Birmingham Vicky? Yes! I have to admit that until the idea was suggested to me of going for a night out in Birmingham, it had never really been on my list of 'must sees'. I was surprised to find out that Birmingham has it's own 'Gay Village' and, as this adventure will attest, it's not three bad a place for a night trannying around either!
Women at C&AIn Ibis-ion!rightSo first stop the Ibis Hotel, just around the corner from the Gay Village which is on a road called Hurst Street. Here I am copying a pose from and old 'Woman at C&A' catalogue with my jacket slung over my shoulder.

The hotel itself isn't 'gay' as such but I suspect given its proximity to the village they must be used to all sorts of queer sights (not least because at the Hippodrome Theater opposite, Julian Clary is starring in a production).

From the left… Carol, Me, Angela and Claire
left My guides for the evening were the cunning Claire and the crafty Carol who are regulars of the Birmingham scene. Claire runs a group called 'Outskirts' which is a support and social group for t*girls in the West Midlands area.

Isn't that Angela? I thought we weren't likely to see her again? Well hey, if she wants to go on a night-out in Birmingham the same day as me, who am I to call a shovel a trowel with a long pole on it?
Missing
up Our first port of call was the 'Missing Bar' which is the regular meeting point for Outskirts where we met up with Holly (in the pink top) and Joanne (with the straw in her mouth) for a few sherbets and a natter. I'll post a full review of all the places we visite on my web-site in the Venue section. Next stops were Enigma and Equinox before finally succombing to the thought of free drinks all night (for a fixed entry fee) at Club DV8.
DV8
up And finally at DV8 we were introduced to one of the resident transsexual performers who had the most amazing outfits (Spanish you see - flamenco dresses and all that). Birmingham is a fun place to go and there were a surprising number of girls trolling around, spread between the many bars and clubs.

My thanks go to Claire, Carol and the Outskirts girls for showing me the ropes. I'm sure it won't be my only visit to the West Midlands…!
