What? You mean you hadn't heard? 'Sparkle' was the first in what will hopefully become an annual series of events that mark a national (UK) celebration of transgenderness. And as part of the celebrations, Trans-MISSION was celebrating it's 3rd birthday, so as one of the two resident DJ's it was off to Manchester where all this fun was taking place.
June isn't necessarily the best time for trannies to be out and about as the summer weather can occasionally lead to a make-up melt-down, however thankfully the temperature remained below 21°C and other than the heating caused by lots of hot bodies boogying on the dance-floor, it remained pretty cool.
The whole day had been filled with various transvestite focussed events such as lectures from pre-eminent transgender personalities, fashion shows and even a beauty contest, however for me it was Trans-MISSION which began at 6pm in the evening that was the main attraction (and the whole reason I was there!) |
First off though, I decided to pay a quick visit to the other venues around Manchester's 'Gay Village' to see what else was going on. My first port of call was 'Via Fossa' where I bumped into Trans-MISSION regular Clarissa Darling.

Then it was up the road to 'Taurus' where Zoe (whose driving skills brought us safely to and from Manchester - thanks hon) was smiling as usual.
And so on to Prague V where it was time to put my DJing skills into practise. I also bumped into one or two other girls (well, one or two hundred would be an underestimate), including the tallest t*girl I have ever seen. Now if you remember that in my heels I am 6ft 7in tall (that's a little over 2 metres), you can only be amazed at the height of the girl in the centre of the picture on the left!
Final picture of the night is this one of me and Myffy, who had come along with her girlfriend to enjoy all the fun that the weekend had to offer. Her riding cane, rubber outfit and nonchalant smile do her an injustice, as she was enjoying herself just as much as everyone else.
Estimates vary as to how many transvestites and transsexuals had made it to Manchester to enjoy the Sparkle festivities, but I would guess there were around 500 plus their partners and friends present. Certainly a large turn-out of which the organisers should be rightly proud. Roll-on Sparkle 2006! |
